Dog attacks are not uncommon in Southern California. Dog bites can be especially traumatic to young children. Scarring and emotional injury often linger on long after the physical pain has stopped. It is important that all dog bites receive immediate medical attention. Infection can result and certain surgeries should be conducted sooner rather than later. To address an Urban Myth, there is no “free” bite for a dog owner in California. If one’s dog bites and injures someone, the owner is responsible for the harms caused. If the dog is off leash, then there are additional grounds of liability that exist in favor of the injured person. Dog bites can be serious and should be treated as such.
